Job Summary

This Principal Technology Architect is a direct report to the Technology Group Product Manager in PSE&G's Utility Technologies department with deep understanding of business goals, business processes and technology architecture. The Technology Architect works to conceptualize and assemble architecture designs to ensure that business needs are met through architecture compatible with existing architectures, while improving business performance, facilitate user adoption and optimizing cost. The architect partners with product owner(s), technology engineers, enterprise architects, business analysts and group product managers to define technical requirements and translating those requirements, along with business requirements, into an architectural blueprint that integrates applications, systems, platforms and infrastructure to achieve business objectives. The defined architecture(s) will consider and support regulatory requirements and policies.

Job Responsibilities

Business outcome and objective definition and documentation:
  • Partners and collaborates with all stakeholders to understand and translate goals and objectives into architecture, roadmaps and capability models. Reconcile different perspectives and drive toward consensus.
  • Engage with implementation teams to encourage and promote use of existing models, methods, services and other artifacts and capabilities resulting in increased speed of technology solution delivery, making such delivery more predictable and increasing the overall re-use of technology components.
  • Act as a bridge among various parties during implementation of architecture components and their integration
  • Architecture definition, documentation and implementation:
  • Looks across applications, infrastructure, technology components and data to when developing roadmaps and capability models that outline how technology solutions are and will be structured
  • Creates and maintains reusable artifacts and patterns. Harvests artifacts across initiatives to extend the library of reusable artifacts and patterns or to enhance the existing reusable artifacts
  • Develops policies, standards, guidelines, procedures and metrics that measure architectural quality and business outcomes
  • Ensures compatibility with existing solutions infrastructure, services and strategic requirements
  • Communicates the objectives and business outcomes of the technology architecture and the associated use cases in which the organization will derive the most value
  • Construction of architecture roadmaps, identifying and securing the associated required investments
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Analyzes end-user needs and designs, configures, develops and tests technology solutions to satisfy demand. Performs build versus buy analysis for business demand. Partners with business analysts to translate business requirements to technology solution requirements.
  • Evaluates existing technology solutions and platforms and provides recommendations for improving technology performance by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of needed modifications.
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders such as enterprise architects, software development, operations, cybersecurity and infrastructure to integrate applications and hardware.
  • Ensures that the design and technology solution implementation meets security and QA standards. Suggests fixes to issues by doing a thorough analysis of root cause and impact of any defect(s).
  • Provides support toward resolution of escalated support tickets. Applies operation break fixes and performs other proactive maintenance activities until permanent solutions can be implemented. Supports and participates in the solution deployment process for new functionality/ subsystems/modules, upgrades, updates and fixes to the production environment.
  • Makes solutions production-ready by following the standard change management processes, completing required forms, following procedures, completing version control documents, etc.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Minimum 8 years of professional technology solution engineering or related experience
Required Competencies:
  • Experience in configuration, development and maintenance of Salesforce solutions related to Service Cloud, preferably Field Service.
  • Software Engineering skills with Force.com platform (Apex, VisualForce, SOQL) and experience developing Lightning Components, Apex classes, Controller classes, Apex Triggers and Visualforce Pages.
  • Experience with web services (REST & SOAP, JSON & XML, etc.)
  • Experience with production support of mission critical technology solutions
  • Experience documenting technical solutions or business and system process flow techniques using applicable methods such as engineering drawings, UML (e.g. Use Case Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, Entity Relationship Diagrams) etc..
  • Demonstrated understanding of projects from the perspective of client/user, business, cyber security and technology day to day operations.
  • Strong analytical ability, excellent problem solving skills, and ability to learn new technical concepts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and good facilitation skills
  • Ability to foster working relationships with Client departments, IT Management and Software Service Providers
  • Understanding of technology architecture, technology platforms and ability to explain technical concepts to the business users in the context of business requirements.
  • Ability to define metrics that measure success of the technology solution in addressing business and technical requirements as well as achieving the desired outcomes.
